Slovakia. Orava Castle. It was built on the site of an older wooden fortress after the Tatar invasion in 1241. Over the following centuries, this small fortress was transformed into an extensive castle structure with 154 rooms. The exterior and interior of the castle bear elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and even contemporary architecture.
The Orava Castle complex consists of various buildings adapted to the shape of the castle hill. Since 1556, the castle has been managed by the Thurz family, which initiated the largest reconstruction actions in its history. The castle took its final shape in 1611.
